Gigi Beanie – Crochet Pattern

Looking for the PERFECT unisex beanie? Look no further, cause I’ve got you covered… literally.

Hey, I’m back with something new for you!  For those that don’t know me, I am Deni, the designer and maker behind DeniMade. Today I am bringing you a classic, easy and quick beanie pattern that works up beautifully in color-changing yarns.

I’m pretty sure we all have some of those gorgeous color changing yarns in our stash that we just don’t know what to do with. Search no more because… THIS is what you do with it. Basic stitches bring out the beauty in yarns that is sometimes hidden by fancy or complicated stitches.

This beanie works up surprisingly fast and makes a great last minute gift.  It’s also a great addition for market prep. Let’s grab our materials and get started!

Create a big ole’ fluffy pom-pom with your favorite sized pom-pom maker (I use the large size) or add faux pom-pom to finish.

Here are some of my tips for perfect yarn poms!

  • The large Clover Pom-Pom Maker works best for beanies.
  • Be generous when making pom-poms.  Don’t be shy, use that yarn.  The more yarn you use the fluffier the pom will be.
  • Use very sharp scissors to cut the yarn! Blunt scissors will ruin your poms.
  • After cutting the yarn, use two strands of yarn to tie very tightly. (I use 2 strands so the tails don’t break while I’m tying them.
  • Trim, trim, trim! Shape those poms. I always make sure I get them as perfectly round as I can before attaching it to the beanie. There’s nothing better than BIG, FLUFFY pom-poms!

This pattern is free but you may also purchase the inexpensive PDF file on Ravelry shop for easy printing and reading. The pdf includes patterns for a fitted beanie and a messy bun beanie for every size. If you’d like a printable version of the pattern, you can find that here.
