Pom-Pom Basket – Crochet Pattern

This decorative Pom-Pom Basket is made up of basic crochet stitches with the addition of pom-poms, leather straps and an inside pocket for a complete look. 

Gather these supplies

Tools

Materials

  • 2 ball T-shirt yarn color beige
  • Wool of different colors for pompoms
  • 2 Leather handles 1″ wide x 17″ long (2.5 cm x 44 cm)
  • Cotton fabric scrap for inner pocket

Abbreviations

  • sc: single crochet
  • st: stitch
  • ch: chain
  • blo: back loop only
  • inc: increase
  • rnd: round

Notes:

  • Do not join rounds, work in a continuous spiral
  • Use a stitch marker or a piece of yarn to mark the beginning of a round.


Here’s How: 

Make the Basket:

Rnd 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring (8)

Rnd 2: inc in all 6 st (16)

Rnd 3: (sc in next sc, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (24)

Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st), repeat 6 times (32)

Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st), repeat 6 times (40)

Rnd 6: (sc in next 4 st, inc in next st), repeat 6 times (48)
make two basket bases

Rnd 7: Join the two bases to sc (48) 

Rnd 8: sc in all 48 st, only blo (48)

Rnd 9 – 19: sc in all 48 st, alternating a round taking the full st and another round taking the st blo (48)

Rnd 20: (9st, 2 chain (skip 2 st)) x 4 (48). 

Rnd 21: sc in all 48 st, including the chains (48).

Assembly:

Step 1: Hide the threads. 

Step 2: Place the leather handles 

Step 3: Cut a rectangle of cotton fabric 8″ (20cm) wide by 6″ (15cm) high, sew around a hem and sew it inside the basket.

Step 4: Make 3 pompoms and decorate the front of your basket
