Bob and Betty Bird – Amigurumi Pattern

Hi Everyone!  I’m Ashley, the designer and maker behind The Loopy Lamb.  I’m so excited to share with you my latest crochet pattern to make these adorable amigurumi birds that I’ve named: Bob and Betty Bird.

These crochet birds have been made using the amigurumi crochet technique.  This means that basic crochet stitches have been used to create a stuffed animal.  This pattern uses simple crochet stitches and basic shaping techniques to keep this pattern accessible for beginner crocheters or those that are new to amigurumi.

The two most absolutely essential tools for creating amigurumi are a comfortable crochet hook and locking stitch markers.  When you’re crocheting amigurumi, you want your stitches to be tight so that there are no gaps that the stuffing can show through.  This can be tough on your hands and wrists over time.  The Clover Amour crochet hook I used to create these birds was so comfortable to use that I was able to crochet two full birds, back to back without pain.

Locking stitch markers are a must because most amigurumi projects are worked in continuous rounds. Without a stitch marker, it’s easy to lose track of the first stitch of your round which can make it hard to keep a proper count of your stitches. I’ve used stitch markers previously that weren’t locking stitch markers and they fell out often.  When they fell out, I would lose my place and end up having to frog the whole project. Talk about frustrating!  Having a great set of locking stitch markers like the quick locking stitch marker set I used from Clover can help avoid that frustration and prevent you from having to potentially frog (unravel) your work.
