Tool School: The Ultimate Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser Foot
What is it?
Sometimes a new sewing notion, a tool designed with one very specific purpose, comes around and we think, “Huh, why hasn’t someone thought of that before?” Case in point, sewing parallel lines of stitches for quilting, home decor or even fashion. Quite a chore, right? Measuring and marking all of those lines can really take all of the fun out of creating. Maybe we even let this daunting task influence the extent of our creative vision. And when it turns out that the lines of stitching we have committed ourselves to don’t end up being exactly parallel our project often becomes a UFO stored securely on a shelf somewhere. Never to be finished. Not what we want. In an effort to say Adios to the requirement to inscribe our fabric with line upon line of markings before we get to the fun part there have been some pretty clever solutions devised. While they can assist us in producing reasonably even spacing between succeeding lines, they are all limited in how far they can expand our creative potential. A deliberate action was required to produce the ultimate guide for parallel stitches. And who better than Nancy Zieman and Clover to develop and make this ultimate stitching guide.

What does it do?
The Ultimate Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser Foot was designed to allow us to create perfect parallel stitching. Something important to keep in mind though, when we talk about parallel stitching we’re not inferring that the lines have to be straight. The Quilt ‘n Stitch is equally adept at inside or outside curves or even circles. Oh, and that idea that parallel means equidistant doesn’t apply either. With the Quilt ‘n Stitch we can increase the distance between succeeding parallel rows of stitches literally with the push of a button. Kind of gets those creative juices going, doesn’t it? Now we can apply quilting or decorative topstitching with reckless abandon. And it will be perfect every time. Here are some of the features:
- The leading edge of the Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser Foot is set to measure a perfect 1/4 inch seam allowance. The rear section of the presser foot is wide enough to cover the feed dogs, resulting in smooth, even movement of our fabric for even stitch length.
- The Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser Foot has an integrated ruler with an alignment guide on the end. By simply pressing the set button, the guide can be moved in 1/8 inch increments from 3/8 inch all the way to 3 inches. Releasing the button locks the guide securely into place.
- The presser foot is constructed of a glossy finish polycarbonate material that is both durable and extremely smooth which enables it to glide easily across our fabric.
- The Quilt ‘n Stitch is set up to accommodate low shank sewing machines. Separate adapters are required for high shank sewing machines.
How do I share it?
Parallel stitching, whether straight, free motion or equally spaced has immense creative potential. It is also very intimidating. In store demonstrations and classes using The Ultimate Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser Foot will remove the intimidation factor and all of your friends will jump on the band wagon. It’s an application that’s just too cool and applies across the spectrum of quilting, home decor and fashion. When everyone discovers that they can produce quality work and do it without all of the tedious “busy work” they’ll be all in.
