Hobo Tote Blog Tour Day 3

What a treat to be ask to join in the blog tour for the Hobo Tote by Nancy Zieman! Alas, due to the tail end of the nasty flu floating around and some up against the wall publisher deadlines I was unable to make this awesome bag by deadline. BUT…. Never fear….

I ask my friend Vicki Hesseltine, owner of Back Porch Quilts & Designs if she could follow directions to make a dress. She asked if someone actually wanted to wear the dress she made, so I figured we were about the same level of competency. She was excited to make the tote for me and already had an appliqué project to put in it. (Great for knitting projects too!)

Vicki made the tote over the weekend at a quilt retreat where 30 some quilters watched her progress. There were a couple places where she had problems and decided the next time (YES she is making another…maybe more) she would use a highlighter and mark the directions that are specific to her style.

Vicki loved the fact that the templates make marking soooo simple and precise…..especially the seam allowance. “I had never made a purse but with this template I will make this one again.”

Vicki found the Wonder Clips ever so helpful and wished she had some of the Jumbo Wonder Clips to work with on the “neck” of the bag. So make sure you have those on your list of must have items when making the bag.
The fabric Vicki used is from the CONTESSA collection by Timeless Treasures. She loves the richness of the colors and designs and thinks the bag shows them off beautifully.

“This is a fun weekend (or retreat) project and many of the women at the retreat wanted to make their own.”
Vicki carries the HOBO TOTE Template and the beautiful fabric she used on her bag along with other great Clover products at her website: Back Porch Quilts
