Rainy Day Blues

Hi everyone. Things got a little hectic and we didn’t get the last of the vacation blog entries posted last week, so we’re going to get you caught up right now!

It DOES rain in paradise … man does it rain! But what a blessing as I sit on the balcony enjoying the cooler temps and the sound of the rain hitting the roof and falling from the trees. Iguanas don’t seem to mind the rain but I am noticing there is an attitude of “testy” in the trees.

Rainy day in Paradise
The rain is heading our way

It is so cool I have put away my applique work and picked up my knitting. I’ve missed it and appreciate the opportunity to work once more on my second mitten. There is just this creative joy when working with this pattern and method. I wonder why I haven’t tried it long before now.

In case you missed the pic before
Point Protectors

I’m noticing I need my tip protectors as I’m using the short 5″ double points … wonder if I would have trouble with the stitches slipping off the needles if I were using the 7″ double points? Thankfully I have enough of the point protectors to keep the stitches where they belong.

I love the old buildings here on St Croix. As you can see by all the flags being flown, 5 countries owned the islands before the U.S. purchased St Croix, St Thomas and St John.

I fear should I ever be blessed to live here I would be tempted to have a fabric and yarn shop with classes, classes, classes!

Yesterday we were in town at one of our favorite snack places, Breezes, having some iced tea and munchies when I became aware of a couple of ladies at an adjoining table watching my applique work. I took out my trusty desk needle threader and threaded several needles to fill my threaded needle dome when one of the ladies got brave and came over to ask what the “purple thing” was I had been putting my needles in. I explained and showed her how wonderfully it works and she asked where on the island she could get one. I told her I rather doubted she would find on the island but could check with a fabric/quilt shop when she returned home or check out Clover’s web site.  She had to have one NOW, she said, before she got back on the cruise ship … w-e-l-l-l-l … I had another week down here and I wasn’t about to give up my needle threader! I actually think she was about to cry but I held strong and no matter what she offered I simply could not let go of my threader.  I think it is the first time I have refused (nicely) to give one of my Clover tools to someone in need. Kinda … KINDA … made me feel guilty … like I wasn’t doing my job as Clover ambassador to the world of stitchers!

I will close with some pics of the beach yesterday. No beach pics today, just rain.

Can”t you just feel the sunshine radiating from these pictures? It is truly amazing to be surrounded by such color and beauty. I hear it’s snowing at home. Oh gee, too bad!

Happy stitching!
