Sweetheart Patches
Why hello all you lovely people! It’s been quite a while since I have been back on here. I am Sarah behind Sarah’s Twists. I am usually here with different crochet or knit patterns, but with you-know-what going on around the world in the first quarter of 2020, I wanted to bring on an old hobby of mine.
What is great about needle felting, is it is so easy to just pick up. What is great about Clover, is they have everything you need to get started with your new found hobby.

Notes:
I absolutely love Clover’s Pen Style Felting Tool. The tool itself is pretty much all you’ll ever need to start needle felting. You are able to adjust the lengths of the needles with a quick twist. Best of all you can use 1, 2, or all 3 needles depending on what you are trying to accomplish. In this quick tutorial, I used the 3 and 2 needles. All 3 for getting the wool onto the sweater, and 2 for the edges to clean it up.
Tutorial
Step 1: Using the Quick Locking Stitch Marker Set, mark out where your elbow hits on your sweater. To do so, put your sweater on and slip the stitch markers in the center of your elbow. Lay your sweater down, and be sure your stitch markers match up close on your sleeves.
Step 2: I have two options laid out that you can use to make your sweet heart patches.
- Option 1: Place your heart stencil on your sleeve, with your stitch marker in the stencil. Slip your Needle Felting Mat into your sleeve, and begin applying the Wool Roving working in small sections using all 3 needles with your Clover’s Pen Style Felting Tool
Tip: Be sure to lift your sleeve off the felting mat periodically to ensure the project does not adhere to the mat. Continue to step 3.
- Option 2:Use the stencil straight onto the mat and felt with all 3 needles on you Clover’s Pen Style Felting Tool.
Tip: Do not fully felt your patch, so that you have some fibers to work onto your sweater and attach by using the option 1 aligning. Attach by using small amount of Wool Roving between your sweater sleeve and sweet heart patch.
Step 3: Remove 1 needle from you Needle Felting Pen, so 2 needles remain. Go along side the edges of your heart to refine and perfect your patches.
Step 4: Continue to build onto the patch with more roving wool till desired opaque dimension.
Step 5: Repeat steps to other sleeve.
