If you’re new to crochet, this is a great beginner-friendly project that uses simple stitches while letting you play with color and create something both useful and decorative. Grab your favorite Clover hook and a few coordinating yarns, and let’s get crocheting!

MATERIALS:

Clover H/5.00mm Clover Amour Crochet Hook
Clover Patchwork Scissors (mini)
Clover Darning Needle
Clover Jumbo Locking Stitch Markers
worsted-weight cotton yarn in brown, orange, and red

ABBREVIATIONS:

ch – chain
chs – chains
st – stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
sp – space
sl st – slip stitch
BLO – back loop only

HARVEST STRIPE PLANTER PATTERN:

With brown, make a magic circle, ch 1, 8 sc into the magic circle. Pull tight to enclose; add a stitch marker in the last sc you made.

Round 1: 2 sc in each st around. Your last st will go in the same st as the st marker.

Move your stitch marker up each round to the last st you just made (do this throughout each round)

Round 2: 1 sc in the first st, 2 sc in the next st, *1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat around.

Round 3: 1 sc in the first 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st, *1 sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat around.

Round 4: 1 sc in the first 3 sts, 2 sc in the next st, *1 sc in the next 3 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat around.

Round 5: 1 sc in the first 4 sts, 2 sc in the next st, *1 sc in the next 4 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat around.

Round 6: 1 sc in the first 5 sts, 2 sc in the next st, *1 sc in the next 5 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat around.

Round 7: 1 sc in the first 6 sts, 2 sc in the next st, *1 sc in the next 6 sts, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat around.

Sl st in the next st. (This slip stitch does not count as a stitch)
Now you will start working in joining rounds from here on out and no longer need your stitch marker.

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 sc BLO in the next st and in each st around. Skip over the sl st and the ch-1; join with a sl st to the first sc.

Change color to orange.

Round 9: Ch 2, 1 dc in the first st and in each st around, join with a sl st to the first dc.

Change color to brown.

Round 10-11: Ch 1, 1 sc in the first st and in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 12: Ch 1, 1 sc in the first 3 sts, *ch 1, sk 1, 1 sc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk 1, 1 sc in the next 4 sts *, repeat from * to * all the way around until you get to the last 4 sts. Ch 1, sk 1, sc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk the last st, sl st to the first sc.

Change color to orange.

Round 13: Ch 2, 1 dc in each st and chain space around. Join with a sl st to the first dc.

Change color to red.

Round 14: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first 3 sts, working over the next dc (this will be a skipped dc), place 1 elongated sc into the ch-1 sp from the row below, 1 sc in each of the next two dc, *working over the next dc (this will be a skipped dc), 1 elongated sc into the ch-1 sp from the row below, 1 sc in each of the next 4 dc, working over the next dc (this will be a skipped dc), place 1 elongated sc into the ch-1 sp from the row below, 1 sc in each of the next two dc, * repeat from * to * all the way around, ending with an elongated sc in the last ch-1 sp. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Change color to brown.
Repeat rounds 10-14 one more time.

Round 20-22: Ch 1, 1 sc in the first st and in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Finish off, weave in ends.
