Flower Pot Cozy *Mother’s Day Gift Idea*

Hello, everybody! It’s not too late to start on your Mother’s Day gift, and this one is as fun to make as it is to give. This Flower Pot Cozy is a fun and easy project that makes any plant feel like a thoughtfully wrapped gift. You can mix and match fabrics, play with colors, or finally use those scraps you’ve been holding onto. The best part is that you get to create something that feels just as special as the person you’re giving it to. It’s beginner friendly, quick to sew, and comes together in no time. Pair it with her favorite flowers or a sweet little plant and you’ve got a gift that feels personal, cozy, and full of love.

MATERIALS:

INSTRUCTIONS:

Note: Use these measurement formulas to determine the size of the fabric you need and how to cut the corners:

1. Apply interfacing to the wrong side of each exterior fabric piece before sewing if your fabric is lighter weight. I made a flower pot cozy for a 5″ x 5″ flower pot. You can cut fabric using the Clover Patchwork Scissors or Clover Rotary Cutter (60 mm) as follows:

2. Use Clover Curve Ruler (with Mini Ruler) or Clover 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge and Clover Triangle Tailor’s Chalk (Red) to mark a 2.5″ x 2.5″ square along both bottom corners of each panel. Cut them out using the Clover Patchwork Scissors.

3. Place the exterior panels right sides together, matching the edges. Stitch along the bottom edge using a 1/2″ seam allowance, backstitching at the beginning and end. Press the seam open.

4. Place the two panels right sides together, aligning the edges. Pin or clip using the Clover Flower Pins or Clover Wonder Clips to secure, then stitch along both side edges, backstitching at the beginning and end. Press the seams open.

5. Match the side seam to the bottom seam, aligning them at the corner. Pin or clip using the Clover Flower Pins or Clover Wonder Clips to keep the seams from shifting. Stitch across the raw edge to box the corner. Repeat for the second corner.

6. Turn the exterior side right side out. Place the exterior piece into the lining piece. Lining should be wrong side out. Align the top raw edges of the exterior and lining, matching the side seams. Pin or clip using the Clover Flower Pins or Clover Wonder Clips all the way around the top edge, keeping both layers evenly aligned. Stitch all the way around the top edge, leaving a 2.5″ opening and removing clips as you sew. Press the seam, then turn the cozy right side out through the opening. Gently push the lining inside. Seal the open edge by topstitching at 1/8″. Fold the top edge down approximately 1″-1.5″.

Your flower pot cozy is complete and ready to gift. Just add your favorite plant for a thoughtful finishing touch. Flip it inside out to enjoy a fully reversible design, giving you two beautiful looks in one. Mix and match fabrics to suit any style, and have fun creating more for every plant and occasion.
