Today’s crochet design is not only handy but also works as a lovely table decoration for both daily and exceptional events. Colorful coasters are a simple way to add some vibrancy to your dining room and kitchen. We all get the impulse to clean and renovate when spring arrives. One excellent way to add color without too much effort is to make basic crochet accessories! A collection of these would also make a wonderful last-minute present – because the most exquisite gifts are handmade! With this pattern, you can quickly crochet your coasters and use up any extra yarn from your stash (be honest, you have a pile of extra scrap yarn in your craft room…). What are you waiting for? MATERIALS:
- Clover Amour Crochet Hook G (4 mm) (or size to obtain gauge!)
- Clover Jumbo Tapestry Needle (Bent Point)
- Clover Patchwork Mini Scissors
- Clover Quick-Locking Stitch Marker
- tape measure
- cotton worsted weight yarn (#4)
- color 1
- color 2
- you can choose more than two colors if you’d like, but only 2 are necessary!
NOTES:
- Read the pattern carefully before starting.
- Unless otherwise noted, this pattern is a very basic design worked continuously in the round.
- * * Repeat the instructions between asterisks as many times as directed or repeat at the specified locations.
- I recommend using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each row so you will not miss it. Remember to move the stitch marker as you progress.
- The numbers at the end of the row indicate the number of stitches in each row.
- Gauge: Round 3 measures about 2 inches (diameter, unblocked)
- Skill level: adventurous beginner to intermediate
- Finished measurement: about 5.5 inches (diameter, unblocked)
ABBREVIATIONS:
- ch(s): chain(s)
- dc: double crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- mr: magic ring
- pm: place marker
- prev: previous
- rep: repeat
- sc: single crochet
- sk: skip
- slst: slip stitch
- st(s): stitch(es)
- p: picot (ch3 and slip stitch in top of double crochet stitch)
ROSE GARDEN COASTER PATTERN:
With Color 1 yarn, start with a MR.
- Round 1: Ch1 (does not count as a st throughout), 8HDC into the ring. PM in 1st st. Pull tight the yarn tail to close the ring. DO NOT slst to join. Continue working in the round. 8 HDC sts
- Round 2: 2SC in each st around. 16 HDC sts
- Round 3: *2SC in next st, 1SC in next st*; Rep from * to * around. 24 HDC sts
- Round 4: *2SC in next st, 1SC in next 2 sts*; Rep from * to * around. 32 HDC sts
- Round 5: *2SC in next st, 1SC in next 3 sts*; Rep from * to * around. Slst in 1st st. 40 HDC sts
- Round 6: Ch1, 1HDC in 1st st, ch2, sk 1 st, *1HDC in next st, ch2, sk 1 st*; Rep from * to * around. Slst in 1st st. 20 HDC sts, 20 ch-2-sps
- Round 7: This round is done by working through the skipped stitches from Round 6. Worked stitches behind Round 6. Ch1, 1HDC into 1st skipped st from the prev round, ch2, sk 1 st, *HDC into next skipped st from the prev round, ch2, sk 1 st*; Rep from * to * around. Slst in 1st st. 20 HDC sts, 20 ch-2-sps
Fasten off and weave in all ends. Continue working the petals into the ch-2-sps in Rounds 6 and 7. Attach Color 2 yarn into the last ch-2-sp in Round 6.
- Round 8: Ch1, (1SC, 1HDC, 3DC) in ch-2-sp, P, sk 1 st, (3DC, 1HDC, 1SC) in next ch-2-sp, *(1SC, 1HDC, 3DC) in ch-2-sp, P, sk 1 st, (3DC, 1HDC, 1SC) in next ch-2-sp*; Rep from * to * around. Slst in 1st st. 10 Petals – 100 sts, 10 P
- Round 9: Ch2 (does not count as a st), (1SC, 1HDC, 3DC) in ch-2-sp behind the 1st st of the prev round, P, sk 1 st, (3DC, 1HDC, 1SC) in next ch-2-sp, *(1SC, 1HDC, 3DC) in ch-2-sp, P, sk 1 st, (3DC, 1HDC, 1SC) in next ch-2-sp*; Rep from * to * around. Slst in 1st st. 10 Petals – 100 sts, 10 P
Fasten off and weave in all ends, then you’re all done! It’s time to proudly display your unique coaster!
