Hello! It’s Jennifer Ryan, the designer, and blogger behind Celtic Knot Crochet. I am excited to be sharing a Thanksgiving crochet project here on the Clover blog!
I LOVE pumpkin pie and am looking forward to having some this season. Do you love it like me? Yum!
Hang this Pumpkin Pie Garland in your home this Thanksgiving to help everyone get into the mood for your feast and for being thankful!
This project uses a small amount of gorgeous velvet yarn and very simple stitches. To make the triangle shape we’ll use some special increases and if you need some help with those, not to worry! I’ve created a step-by-step video tutorial that you can find on my Youtube Channel here: https://youtu.be/r27y0lwVok8
Let’s get started!
Skill Level: Easy
Supplies:
- Velvet yarn – 1 skein each of orange and tan
- A small amount of medium-weight acrylic yarn – White
- K (6.5mm) hook- Art No. 1053/K
- Jumbo tapestry needle
- Small pom-pom maker (35mm/1 3/8”)- Art No. 3124
- Sharp scissors
- Wonder Clips (10-15)- Art No. 3185
Finished Measurements: 45” long
Each pumpkin pie piece = 5 ½” long x 5” wide (at longest and widest points)
Gauge: Not necessary for this project
Abbreviations:
YO (yarn over)
Hk (hook)
Lp (loop)
Ch (chain)
St (stitch)
Sp (space)
Sc (single crochet)
Hdc (half double crochet)
Sl st (slip stitch)
Special Stitches:
Hinc (hidden increase) = insert hk through back loop only of st and complete sc as usual; then insert hk under both loops of same st and complete sc as usual
Join with sc (join with single crochet) =When looking at the right side of a chain, you see many “V’s” and the chain looks like a braid. Turn the chain over and you see a series of bumps – it is in these bumps that you will work across the chain to produce a cord with even edges along both sides
Base of next st = insert hk into same place that indicated previous stitch is worked
Notes:
Each pumpkin pie piece is crocheted and then joined to hanging chain
Each pie piece is crocheted from the bottom point up
All increases (2 sc) are done with a hidden increase (see Special Stitches above– this helps to eliminate a large hole from forming at each increase
Small pom-poms are made with acrylic yarn and added last

Weave in ends with Jumbo Tapestry Needle
Pom-pom – Make 5:
Make a pom-pom using Clover’s Pom-Pom Maker
Open pom-pom maker so arches look like the above image
Wrap one set of arches about 20 times with yarn making sure coverage is even and that you wrapped around both arches
End wrapping on right side and fold arch into to center circle
Wrap the left arches about 20 times making sure coverage is even
Fold these arches in to the center circle
With scissors and making sure arches stay put in center circle, cut wrapped yarn – Scissors will be in the channel created by each arch
Cut a long length of white yarn – about 12? (30 mm)
Wrap length around the maker pulling inside the channels
Tie a very tight knot twice to secure the yarn
Open the arches on both sides
Pull apart both sides of the maker and remove pom-pom
Fluff yarn and trim any lengths that aren’t even with the rest of pom-pom – except for the yarn tails of the length that tied pom-pom together – you will use these to secure the pom-pom to the pie piece
**The video tutorial for this project can be found here and includes a demonstration on making the pom-poms**
Hanging Chain:
With orange ch until measures 10 inches; sl st in 1st ch to form first hanging loop; ch until measures approximately 32 inches long from sl st and mark last ch with a stitch marker; ch until measures 10 inches from stitch marker; join with sl st in ch marked with stitch marker to form second hanging loop. Fasten off.
Finishing/Assembly:
With white yarn and needle sew pom-poms to pie pieces using photo as a guide
With orange yarn and needle secure each pie piece to hanging chain making sure stitches do not show on Right Side of each piece –
Tip: Lay hanging chain out on work surface and mark middle with a wonder clip
Lay one pie piece at center and work out from there placing other pieces evenly to the right and left – Use wonder clips to hold in place while sewing on
Now your Pumpkin Pie Garland is complete and ready to use at your Thanksgiving feast! ?
