Striped Summer Throw

Have you been waiting for summer to arrive?

Hey Clover Family, it’s Danielle from sprinklesofzeal and I can finally say that summer is here!  I’ve been patiently waiting for a beach day with my family and now the weather has agreed.

This week, I will be showing you how to sew a striped summer throw that’s super easy and lightweight. Alright, let’s grab the supplies and get started!

Supplies:

  • Rainbow Fabric -3 yards
  • Striped Fabric – 3 yards
  • Teal Fabric -3 yards
  • Clover Bordeaux Ultimate Shears Art No. 4942
  • Hold it Precision Stiletto Art No. 7807
  • Clover Jumbo Wonder Clips Art No. 3157
  • Ruler
  • Sewing Machine
  • Thread
  • Hand Sewing Needle (optional)
Step 1. Cut the fabric strips
Make sure your fabric is folded, then take a ruler and measure the strips. Each strip should be 9 inches by 24 inches.
Cut 15 to 20 strips using Clover’s Bordeaux Ultimate Shears.
Quick Tip: If you’re using more than one fabric, be sure to stack them and then cut the strips. This will help to expedite the cutting process.
Step 3. Clip the Strips
Use Clover’s Jumbo Wonder Clips to attach the strips. These wonder clips are great to use when you don’t want to puncture your fabric.
Step 4. Let’s Sew!
Sew all of your strips using the straight stitch on your sewing machine. I used a contrasting thread, but you can match your thread to your chosen fabric.
I love how the patterned fabric from Shannon Fabrics makes the throw look vibrant.
Step 5. Create the Backing
Use your leftover fabric to finish the throw. I decided to connect my teal fabric with the striped fabric.
Clip the two fabrics.
Then, sew them together.
Step 6. Connecting the Front and Back.
The striped front and back are ready to be connected. Make sure the right sides are facing, then clip around the perimeter of the throw and sew.
It’s important to leave about a 10-inch opening, so we can pull the right sides of the fabric out. If you’ve sewn a pillow before, then you may be familiar with this step.
After sewing, you will stuff the fabric through that 10-inch hole, then smooth out the corners with the Hold it Precision Stiletto.
Step 7. Closing the hole.
Ok, now we’ve reached the final step. Use the Jumbo Wonder Clips to clip the hole close, then sew over the top.
You can also hand stitch the opening close with a ladder stitch.
Congrats! You’ve just completed your very own striped summer throw!
This summer throw is not only comfortable, but it’s bright and colorful. I hope you’ve enjoyed this sewing tutorial and share it with your friends.

Well, until next time have a craftastic day!
