The California collection is my favorite for a grab and go handbag. It is designed with just enough room to carry the essentials and is light and easy to wear.
For my makeover I decided to add a sassy ruffle to the outside pocket using Fuse ‘n Gather to update the look.
That’s right I said Fuse ‘n Gather!
1. Simply fuse the tape onto the ruffle strip (blue stitch lines are up).
2. Tie the blue stitches together on the back end securing the stitches so they don’t pull out. Then pull the two blue stitches to gather the ruffle.
3. Adjust the gathers to the top of the outer pocket piece. Baste.
4. I also added piping to the pocket and from here on out I just followed all the directions for the bag.
I’m top-stitching just below the piping to hold the ruffle down.
I’m stitching the pocket to the bag front holding it in place with Wonder Clips.
Create-a-Strap is a fusible interface which gives the strap strength.
Fuse to the wrong side of the strap fabric.
Fold & press seam allowance along the perforated lines.
To face the strap I’m making my own fabric trim using the ½” bias tape maker.
This was a simple twist on a popular bag…would love to see your version!
