Clover Needlecraft

Fran’s Q & A

One of the things I most enjoy about my job is helping people with problems they are having.  I have a deep love for the needle arts and want everyone to enjoy them as much as I do.  I will share some of the questions I receive in hopes that they might be of help to some of you all.  If something isn’t working the way you think it should or the way you want it to send me a note and I will gladly help you solve the problem.

The following are some recent question I have received.
1.  Sweet heart rose maker. When cutting the material does it need to be cut on the bias or on the straight or does it not matter?

No, the fabric does not need to be cut on the bias.  Cutting on the bias will give you a softer drape to the flower.  I make the decision to cut bias or straight depending upon the fabric I am using.  Try cutting a strip each way and see which you like best for the look you want.  I love working with this product and find using large paperclips to hold template to fabric when I am working with it helps keep it under control.

2. I was wondering what size Soft Touch Steel Crochet Hook should she use with a size 10 cotton thread.

I like to work with a size 7.  I am one of those crocheters that test several sizes because of the way i crochet.  If you tend to crochet tightly go larger, if you work loosely, go smaller.  I work more by the look of the finished work that the hook suggested with the pattern.  I do not make crocheted garments because my tension is not the best with crochet work.  I am addicted to crocheting with thread ( not yarn) and love making tablecloths and lace edgings.

Check in next month to see what comes up in the product questions.  If you have a question please send it along to fran@clover-usa.com or reply on the blog.
